In 21st July 1964, a series of racial riots was sparked off between the Chinese and the Malays due to resentment and distrust. This resulted in about 23 deaths and 450 injured. Singapore is a small country and a small riot could have a great impact on Sinagpore. Thus by being a multi-racial country, it is important to have racial harmony in Singapore.

By having peace among the different races, it will helps to keep Singapore to be stablise socially and thus, let Sinagpore remains attractive to investors. Hence, Racial Harmony Day is important as it works as a reminder to people about the drastic consequences of the disputes between difference races. By ceebrating Racial Harmony Day, it allows students to know the culture of other races better. In this way, mutual understanding and respect of different races could be instilled.

In conclusion, celebrating Racial Harmony Day in important as it helps to work out the differences between each races and let them to have a better understanding of others. Therefore, trust can be built up and Singapore can remains peaceful.
